The Fifth Station

by Jane Blanchard

Simon of Cyrene

The morning here became so loud
I felt impelled to join the crowd,
Then found my speech or clothes or skin
Made me unable to blend in.

The Romans who assist the Jews
Considered me someone to use,
So now I bear this dreadful cross,
But for whose gain and for whose loss?

Just what has Jesus ever done?
Who is he? Christ, the Chosen One?
The Son of Man? The Son of God?
These questions come as on we plod.
